Kauppila, Fernandez, Levasseur Capture 2017 Club Championship Crowns

Chris Kauppila, Bill Fernandez and Brenda Levasseur won their respective divisions in the 2017 Hidden Meadows Club Championship over the weekend of August 26th and 27th. Kauppila won the Overall Championship and the Junior Championship with a 5-over-par 147 with rounds of 72 and 75. Fernandez won the Senior Championship, shooting 84 and 78 enroute to a 162 total. Levasseur shot 91 and 99 for a 190 total to win the Women’s Championship.

Kauppila jumped out to a five stroke lead after Saturday’s one-over-par round, taking the lead over Randy Bernard who shot a 77. Bernard fired an even par 35 on the back nine on Saturday to keep things close.

Kauppila stumbled a little bit on Sunday, shooting 41 on the front nine. He pulled things together on his home nine, coming in with a one-under-par 34 and finishing 14 strokes ahead of Bernard. Bernard finished in second place at 161 while Senior Division Champion Bill Fernandez came in third with 162. Lucas Shorette and Hazen Dauphinee rounded out the top five with 164 and 171 respectively.

Fernandez began the day three strokes back of first round leader Ed Lucas. He quickly made up the difference as Lucas struggled off the tee all day on Sunday, cruising to a 10 shot victory over Lucas, George Thibodeau and Mike LaFontaine, who finished in a three-way tie for second with 172. David Saucier had a nice round of 85 on Sunday, coming in with a two-day total of 175 and finishing in 5th place.

Brenda Levasseur jumped out to a quick lead on Saturday shooting 91, 11 strokes clear of Lorraine Lanigan. In spite of some putting problems on Sunday, Levasseur came in with a two-day total of 190 and a 14-stroke victory over Lanigan. Michele Kauppila had a good tournament, shooting rounds of 104 and 106, good for third place. Suzanne Hartt finished in fourth place and Sue Patrick finished fifth.
