The MacGregor Oversize Putter

Legend has it that Ben Crenshaw won the 1984 Masters with a putter he bought at a garage sale for $5. Not sure if it’s true or not, but very possible. Mr. Crenshaw could very possibly putt with a hockey stick and still out-putt most pro’s.

When Jack Nicklaus won the 1986 Masters at age 46, he did it with an oversize putter, the likes which had never been seen before. Of course, MacGregor Golf Company, which Nicklaus was part of at the time, took full advantage of the exposure and produced several oversize models.

As with most gimmicky things, the fad faded quickly. But every so often you’ll see something from the past show up. We have one of those oversize putters here in the pro shop. It’s not the putter Nicklaus used to win The Masters. But it is one of the putters that MacGregor built after his win.

With all of this in mind, this putter can be yours for only $9.99. The price isn’t quite as good as Ben Crenshaw’s $5 putter, and I can’t promise that this will help you win The Masters. But if you want something with a little story behind it, here’s your chance.
