Grant Wins Hidden Meadows Match Play Tournament
Terry Grant won the inaugural Hidden Meadows Match Play tournament on Sunday, defeating Don Steeves 5 & 4. Ed Lucas defeated George Thibodeau in the 2nd Flight, winning 1 up on the 20th hole.
The match between Grant and Steeves was tight through the first nine holes, with Grant taking a 2-up lead with a par on #9. He stretched his lead to 3-up on #10, but Steeves kept things close with a par on #11 to bring it back to a 2-up lead. Then Grant won three of the next four holes to put the match away.
The match between Lucas and Thibodeau went back and forth all day long. Thibodeau won the first two holes to jump out to a quick lead, but Lucas came right back to win the next two holes to even the match. Lucas built his lead to 2-up after making a birdie on #11, then Thibodeau won three of the next four holes to take a 1-up lead after 16.
Lucas and Thibodeau both made bogey on the par 3 17th hole, then Lucas won the 18th hole with a par to send the match to overtime. After the pair made bogey on the first extra hole, Lucas took the match by making a birdie 3 on the 20th hole.
Grant and Lucas each won $50 in pro shop credit for their efforts while Steeves and Thibodeau received $30 for runner-up.
There were a 16 players in the month-long tournament, with one round of matches being played every week. This will become an annual summer event at Hidden Meadows. Thanks for playing everyone!
